High School Testing

Florida Statewide Assessment Program
Participation in the assessment program is mandatory for all students enrolled in a public school. The grade-level Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) that public school students are required to take measures student achievement of the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards.
High School Assessments
Florida’s Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards were adopted by the State Board of Education on February 12, 2020. For resources to better understand the standards to which the assessments are aligned, please visit CPALMS. In Spring 2023, a B.E.S.T. Writing field test was administered to a representative sample of Florida students.
The Education Code in the Florida Statutes mandates that public school students take the statewide, standardized End-of-Course (EOC) assessment that correlates with the course in which they are enrolled, such as:
Algebra 1
Geometry
Biology 1
US History
Civics
EOCs in Algebra, Geometry, Biology, and US History are worth 30% of the student’s final grade. Please see the FLVS Student Progression Plan for details
The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), which includes VPK through grade 10 Reading and VPK through grade 8 Mathematics assessments, will be administered as a progress monitoring assessment, which students will participate in three times per year: once in the fall (remote from home), again in the winter (remote from home), and lastly during the spring (in-person). Although fall and winter FAST administrations will be conducted in a remote session, Florida Virtual School students in grades 3-10 must return to their assigned test site (e.g., zoned school) for the spring administration.
The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) will be available twice a year to students enrolled in the following courses.
2106310 – United States Government
2106320 – United States Government Honors
2106420 – Advanced Placement United States Government and Politics

Graduation Assessment Requirements
Florida’s Statewide Graduation Requirements
According to Florida law, students must meet certain academic requirements to earn a standard high school diploma from a public school. This means that students must pass required courses, earn a minimum number of credits, earn a minimum grade point average, and pass the required statewide assessments. Students who meet these requirements but do not pass the required assessments will receive a certificate of completion, which is not equivalent to a standard high school diploma. Passing scores for the statewide assessments are determined by the State Board of Education.
A passing score of an achievement level 3 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA and Algebra 1 EOC assessments are required to earn a diploma in the state of Florida.
Statewide Assessment Retakes
Students can retake the Grade 10 ELA Assessment or Algebra 1 EOC Assessment each time the test is administered until they achieve a passing score. The testing team will automatically schedule all juniors and seniors needing to satisfy a graduation requirement whenever testing is available.
Concordant and Comparative Scores
A student can also meet assessment graduation requirements by earning a concordant or comparative score as specified in Rule 6A-1.09422, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.).
